Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has told Sky he would welcome the chance to play under future Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
Pogba, 22, has been linked with a number of Europe’s leading clubs for some time despite Juve’s insistence he is not for sale.
It was recently reported that Barcelona, who had been touted as the favourites for Pogba’s signature, had withdrawn from the race for his services as they could not afford to sign him, paving the way for a move to City.
The France international has now told Sky Sport Deutschland he would relish the chance to work with Guardiola, who will take charge at the Etihad Stadium when his Bayern Munich contract expires in the summer.
“Guardiola is a coach with a lot of experience, he has a philosophy which is very important and he has a big impact on the team,” he said.
“People respect him. When you see him, you want to play and progress. He is an icon of football and I’ve heard he manages to improve every player he has at his disposal.”
The former Manchester United midfielder was asked whether he would like to work with Guardiola in the future and replied: “I am a Juventus player now, but for sure when there is a coach like him he will coach you and you will become better.”
Catalan newspaper Sport reported on Friday that City were also set to sign Germany midfielder Ilkey Gundogan in the summer, but Borussia Dortmund swiftly denied the claim.
