Lere Olayinka, a prominent figure within the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has raised allegations against certain individuals affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), claiming that they are falsely presenting themselves as PDP members.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Olayinka, who previously served as the Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Ayo Fayose, accused certain individuals within the PDP of falsely claiming allegiance to the party while actively supporting the SDP.
He specifically highlighted their involvement in actions that were contrary to the interests of the PDP during the 2022 governorship election in the state and the 2023 National Assembly elections.
Expressing his dismay at the situation, Olayinka emphasized that those who had worked against the PDP’s objectives in previous elections were now attempting to portray themselves as loyal members of the party.
He pointed out that their actions were misleading and detrimental to the PDP’s integrity.
Olayinka also addressed the issue of political affiliations, noting the presence of a former spokesperson for the SDP at a recent meeting and questioning whether this signaled a shift in allegiance from the SDP to the PDP.
He highlighted the need for clarity within the PDP and suggested that the party’s lack of a clear direction was allowing its members to pursue their individual political agendas without a unified strategy.
Regarding his former boss, Governor Ayo Fayose, Olayinka defended Fayose’s right to support any candidate or party of his choice, describing him as a statesman.
However, he emphasized the need for the PDP to establish a clear and coherent direction to prevent its members from pursuing divergent political paths.
The allegations made by Olayinka have sparked discussions within the political landscape of Ekiti State, raising questions about the authenticity of certain individuals’ affiliations with the PDP and the SDP.
