A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Alhaji Isa Rabiu, has called on former governor Nasir El-Rufai to exercise patience and allow a thorough investigation into his eight-year administration in the state.
Rabiu made the statement in an interview with Newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna, responding to El-Rufai’s recent claims of innocence regarding allegations of corruption during his tenure.
El-Rufai, who served as Kaduna State governor from 2015 to 2023, had declared that he did not embezzle public funds and expressed his readiness to swear on the Holy Quran to affirm his integrity.
In response, Rabiu urged El-Rufai to remain patient and wait for the outcome of a proper investigation.
“Former governor El-Rufai should wait patiently for the final investigation before making statements or swearing with the Quran about what transpired during his administration in Kaduna State,” Rabiu said.
The PDP chieftain further recalled that El-Rufai himself had orchestrated a petition against Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna, which led to an investigation into Makarfi’s administration.
“To be honest, from all indications, El-Rufai lacks the discipline, self-control, and focus to do the right thing, rather than rushing to swear with the Holy Quran,” Rabiu remarked.
He also criticised El-Rufai for fleeing the country during the regime of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, only to return after the president’s death in 2010, when he allegedly began making controversial statements against the late leader.
Rabiu called on the Kaduna State government, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to thoroughly investigate El-Rufai’s tenure and recover any funds that may have been misappropriated during his time in office.
The investigation into El-Rufai’s administration remains a topic of public interest as calls for accountability continue to grow in Kaduna State.
