The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced its state congress in Kano, expressing determination to rebuild its strength and reclaim power in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the congress on Saturday, the party’s Northwest Zonal National Vice Chairman, Senator Bello Hayyatu Gwarzo, expressed confidence that the PDP would achieve a strong comeback nationwide.
“We are laying a solid foundation to revive the party both in Kano State and across the nation,” Gwarzo stated.
“We want to ensure that all hands are on deck to guarantee victory in the upcoming elections, so we can deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, as our records show.”
Gwarzo emphasized that the PDP in Kano remains united and free from factions, positioning itself as a formidable force in the state.
The chairman of the electoral panel, Halilu Mazagani, who was sent by the party’s national headquarters to oversee the congress, commended the smooth conduct of the event.
He praised state-level officials for their efforts, noting that the successful congress signals a renewed commitment to unity within the party.
“The smooth conduct of today’s congress shows that the PDP is on the path to resolving internal differences and building a stronger opposition capable of challenging the ruling party,” Mazagani said.
“We are mobilizing like never before to ensure success in 2027, and I am confident the people will vote for us.
It is now up to us to present them with credible candidates, just as we’ve done in the past.”
Dr. Umar Musa, an elder of the party who represented former Governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, also expressed optimism about the PDP’s prospects.
“The party will produce a winning team that can compete in any election,” Musa assured, adding that the PDP is committed to selecting candidates who can match the demands of voters and secure victory.
The congress marks a key step in the PDP’s preparations for the 2027 general elections as the party seeks to rebuild momentum and strengthen its presence in Kano and beyond.
