The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pledged to ensure a free, fair, and credible governorship primary election in Edo State.
Speaking at the National Headquarters in Abuja, the chairman of the screening committee for the primaries and Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, assured PDP aspirants of a level playing field, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to transparency and fairness.
“We appreciate the concerns that you all have expressed in asking for a level playing field; we are going to be strong advocates of that.
We will ensure that at the end of the day we have a process that is transparent, a process that is fair because I am a beneficiary of that process,” Mutfwang stated.
He further assured the aspirants that the party would work together as one big family, regardless of the primary election’s outcome.
In response, Edo Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, representing the aspirants, pledged to abide by the rules, demonstrating the aspirants’ commitment to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, another aspirant and former Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasized the party’s determination to win the Edo governorship election.
He urged all aspirants to prioritize the party’s success and support the eventual candidate, provided the process remains free, fair, and transparent.
“Onaiwu emphasized, “Winning Edo is a priority for the party, and we cannot allow it to slip into the hands of the opposition.
I have told everyone to drop their ego and support whoever emerges as the PDP candidate for Edo state as long as the process is free, fair, and transparent.”
