Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for the 2023 general election in Lagos State, has voiced his support for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stating that Obi is the leader Nigeria needs.
However, Rhodes-Vivour emphasized that Obi is not the politician they need for their specific cause.
In a podcast interview with the Honest Bunch Podcast, Rhodes-Vivour expressed his admiration for Obi’s leadership qualities, highlighting Obi’s integrity by stating, “Peter Obi is the leader that we need for Nigeria, but not the politician we need for us.”
Rhodes-Vivour further commended Obi’s electoral approach, claiming, “Peter (Obi) does not buy votes. He won Lagos without buying votes.”
During the 2023 polls, Peter Obi finished in third place, trailing behind President Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.
Meanwhile, Rhodes-Vivour lost the gubernatorial election to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Rhodes-Vivour challenged the election result all the way to the Supreme Court. In a unanimous judgment delivered in January 2024 by a five-member panel, the court affirmed Sanwo-Olu’s victory, dismissing two separate appeals challenging the election outcome.
