Chelsea forward, Cole Palmer has come out to praise Mauricio Pochettino for his influence in transforming him into the player he is now. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, Pochettino gave him the opportunity and the freedom to thrive at the club, and the faith the manager had in his talent made it so sad to see him leave at the end of the season.
Palmer added that Poch is probably the main reason he was even called up to the England national team.
His words, “[Pochettino] just gave me the opportunity and the freedom and said: ‘Do what you do’. I was [sorry to see him go], because he put his trust in me and we built a good relationship. Not just with him but with all his staff who were there. When he left I was gutted.
He is probably the main reason [I am in the England squad] because a different manager might not have given me that freedom and opportunity to do what I did at Chelsea.”
On Maresca, “Enzo was the one who put me at right-wing. From the [under] 18s I was playing [number] 10 and when I went to the 23s Enzo played me on the right. That was my first full season on the right. He’s a good coach, a really good coach. I think tactically he knows what he is doing. He will improve a lot of the players.”
WOW.
Chelsea Football Club is an English professional football club based in Fulham, West London. Founded in 1905, they play their home games at Stamford Bridge.
The club competes in the Premier League, the top division of English football. They won their first major honour, the League championship, in 1955. The club won the FA Cup for the first time in 1970, their first European honour, the Cup Winners’ Cup, in 1971, and became the third English club to win the Club World Cup in 2022.
On 7 May 2022, Chelsea confirmed that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss, to acquire the club. The group was later known as BlueCo.
The UK government approved the £4.25bn takeover, ending Abramovich’s 19-year ownership of the club. Bruce Buck, who served as chairman since 2003, was replaced by Boehly, while long-serving club director and de facto sporting director Marina Granovskaia left, as did Petr Čech from the role of technical and performancadvisor.
