The Police Command in Kano State has affirmed its commitment to providing security for the upcoming February 3 re-run elections in three state constituencies across six local government areas of the state.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, the Police Commissioner, Mr. Hussaini Gumel, assured the public of the police force’s readiness to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Gumel emphasized that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies in the state, have devised operational strategies to guarantee security at each polling unit during the elections.
He stated, “We have mobilised sufficient armed personnel to provide security before, during, and after the election.
I am giving 100 per cent assurance to all law-abiding residents of the constituencies that they can go about freely to exercise their franchise on Feb. 3 without threat to lives and property.”
The commissioner urged leaders of political parties and candidates to discourage their supporters from engaging in any form of violence or thuggery before, during, and after the election.
He warned that individuals or groups found disobeying orders would be arrested and prosecuted.
In preparation for the re-run elections, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Amb. Abdu Zango, confirmed that arrangements have been finalized.
He listed the constituencies where the re-run elections will take place as Kunchi/Tsanyawa, Kura/Garun Malam, and Rimin Gado/Tofa, with elections scheduled to be conducted in 66 polling units across the six local government areas.
Zango assured that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is fully prepared to conduct transparent and credible elections, with the use of the Biometric Voter Authentication System (BVAS) to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
He reiterated that only individuals with a permanent voter card would be allowed to participate in the re-run elections.
The announcements from the Police Command and INEC provide reassurance to the public and stakeholders about the security and integrity of the upcoming re-run elections in Kano State.
