In a significant development, the police in Plateau State have paraded seventeen suspects believed to be connected with the recent spate of killings in various parts of the state.
This announcement was made by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 4, Ebong Eyibio, during a press briefing at the headquarters of the Plateau State Police Command in Jos.
According to Eyibio, eight of the suspects were apprehended in connection with the attacks that occurred on Christmas Eve in 2023, while the remaining nine were arrested for their alleged involvement in a recent security breach in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Additionally, he revealed that ten corpses were recovered following the recent incident in Mangu.
Eyibio, who was represented at the briefing by the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, provided further details. He stated that the Plateau State Police Command had successfully repelled an attack on villages in Mangu LGA.
He also highlighted the prevention of an attempt to set fire to worship centers in Panyam District, crediting swift intervention by the police and assistance from community elders.
In response to these incidents, Eyibio announced the deployment of additional Special Intervention personnel to Mangu LGA to reinforce security measures and ensure compliance with the government-imposed curfew.
He emphasized the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace, restoring public confidence, and combating criminal activities in the state.
Eyibio concluded by urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring them of the police’s unwavering dedication to restoring peace and order in Plateau State.
It is noteworthy that Eyibio was deployed to Plateau State following the Christmas Eve attacks as part of efforts to address the security challenges in the region.
