President Bola Tinubu has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima to head a presidential delegation to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Office of the Vice-President, announced this in a statement.
The Super Eagles will face hosts Côte d’Ivoire in a rematch at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11.
Nkwocha stated that the match will evoke memories of Nigeria’s 1-0 victory against the hosts in the group stage, secured through Captain William Troost-Ekong’s penalty.
Tinubu believes Shettima’s presence at the final, accompanied by the delegation, demonstrates the government’s steadfast support for the team and its commitment to their success.
“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to unite in support of the Super Eagles.
“The government also encourages all Nigerians to cheer them on and foster a sense of national pride that will propel the team to victory,” he said.
Shettima had previously represented Tinubu at the semi-final when the Eagles defeated South Africa in an exhilarating match.
