Abuja (Nigerian National Merit Award Report) – President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has conferred the Nigerian National Order of Merit Award on Niyi Osundare (Professor), renowned poet and dramatist. This was done recently in the Presidential Villa to celebrate the recipient’s brilliance, hard work, commitment to academics and intellectualism in the nation.
The President during the occasion urged the recipient to sustain his interest in writing and research at his present level of excellence. He also described his works as inspirational and relevant to the intellectual development of our upcoming generation. President Goodluck Jonathan commended the Nigerian National Merit Award (NNMA) for its determination to promote intellectualism, professionalism and meritocracy in the country.
He recognized the neutrality of the organization, stating that the NNMA is one of the few public entities whose integrity has not been compromised. He added that the NNMA has never fallen below standards whenever assessing its recipients. He also pledged to take necessary steps towards strengthening the NNMA. President Goodluck Jonathan promised to study the recommendations of the communiqué group and convert them into policies to be implemented for better governance. The President expressed his will to continue to promote excellence and merit in his administration so as to enhance rapid development and nationhood.
