Terrorists would not be welcome in Africa, President Bola Tinubu has said.
Tinubu advocated on the United Kingdom to work with Nigeria and Africa to root out terrorists.
However, he cautioned that security would remain an issue so long as governments in the region remained fragile.
Tinubu made the remarks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while hosting the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, Rt Hon. James Cleverly MP.
He also expressed concern about the safety of terrorists in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa.
Tinubu sent a statement through his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, pleading with the British government to help Nigeria secure West Africa.
We don’t want Africa and our sub-region to become terrorist nests, thus President Tinubu informed the Foreign Secretary that the country needs a “dynamic partnership” on security and economic development.
Rt Hon Cleverly, speaking on behalf of the British government, indicated that they will back Tinubu and ECOWAS’s decision to promote democracy and stability in Niger and Africa.
“For us, it is in our national interest to see a peaceful and prosperous African continent, because peace and security go hand in hand,” he said.
