The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has called on President Bola Tinubu to focus on ending hunger in Nigeria instead of implementing new taxes.
Primate Ayodele criticized the recent increases in Value Added Tax (VAT), stamp duty, and the introduction of the cybersecurity levy, stating that these measures would further burden Nigerians already facing economic hardship.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele urged the government to reconsider its policies and ensure they are people-friendly, especially considering the widespread hardship in the country.
He emphasized, “Increasing VAT, stamp duty, implementing cybersecurity levy at this time is not proper.
Nigeria may not understand all of these, and the government in power may not even understand too, but the fact remains that the government must review their policies very well.”
Primate Ayodele also called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to carefully scrutinize policies that could create problems for the government and affect Nigerian banks in the future.
He cautioned that the current harsh policies would have a detrimental impact on all sectors of the country and emphasized the need for the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens, particularly ensuring access to food.
“What Nigerians need now is how they will survive and eat their three square meals. What is going on now will affect every small scale industry and big men.
A lot of people surrounding the president are deceiving him,” he added.
