Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness to engage in discussions with the U.S. President Donald Trump on resolving the Ukraine conflict, raising expectations of potential contact between the two leaders.
Speaking on Friday, Putin reiterated Russia’s openness to negotiations on the Ukraine crisis.
“As for the issue of negotiations, we have always said, and I want to emphasise this once again, that we are ready for these negotiations on Ukrainian issues,” he stated.
The Russian leader also suggested that the 2022 Ukraine crisis, marked by Moscow’s large-scale military offensive, might have been avoided if Trump had been in office at the time.
“I cannot but agree with him that if he had been president — if his victory hadn’t been stolen in 2020 — then maybe there would not have been the crisis in Ukraine that emerged in 2022,” Putin said.
The remarks come amid ongoing tensions over the Ukraine war and the return of Donald Trump to the White House.
