ABUJA (Information Minister’s Press Crew) – The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku has received the news of the demise of the erstwhile Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Remi Oyo with shock and sadness.
The Minister, who disclosed this recently, described her death as a huge loss to her family, the media industry in Nigeria, the womenfolk and the nation in general. He said that Remi Oyo was a core professional who dedicated her life to the service of the nation as well as humanity through the practice of journalism.
Labaran Maku also noted that she died at a time when the nation and the media industry in Nigeria needed her wise counsel and vast experience. Adding, the deceased excelled in her journalistic duty, while serving as Editor, President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, former Presidential Spokesperson and Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria.
The Information Minister acknowledged that the Late Remi Oyo during his tenure as the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors transformed the organisation into a vibrant organ of the media industry in Nigeria. He added that she equally discharged her duties remarkably as a Presidential Spokesperson.
The Minister recalled his days of satisfactory work with the deceased when she was the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN); noting that her experience, knowledge and dedication to duty manifested in the transformation of NAN into a multi-media platform, enhancing and expanding the reach of the organization as a foremost News Agency in Africa.
He commiserated with the family of the Late Remi Oyo over the sad and painful loss and urged them to be consoled by the knowledge that she was a patriot, who lived a fruitful, dutiful and impactful life of service to the nation. He prayed God to repose her soul and grant her family and the media industry in Nigeria the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
