Surprised social media users have just realized that Fenty is Rihanna’s last name, and they can’t believe the fact flew over their heads for years.
The 29-year-old singer has used her own name to designate her beauty and fashion ranges, and it received renewed attention earlier this month with the launch of Fenty Beauty’s first range of products.
That led plenty of people to discover that Rihanna’s real name is actually Robyn Rihanna Fenty, which left them stunned.
In addition to Fenty Beauty, Rihanna has also used her last name in her fashion range with Puma, Fenty x Puma, since becoming the brand’s creative director in 2014.
But even though the name has been well publicized for years, some people still kept wondering where the word Fenty came from, with some believing it was a made-up word.
‘I WAS SHOOK NOT KNOWING RIHANNA’S LAST NAME IS “FENTY” WOAHHHH’ one person wrote in Twitter after the realization.
Some fans were even led to question their own level of devotion to the singer.
‘FENTY IS RIHANNA’S LAST NAME SAY WHAT I am the worst fan ever,’ someone else added.
Others admonished themselves for not putting two and two together sooner, with one Twitter user writing: ‘I, the idiot, didn’t know Rihanna’s last name was Fenty so I’m sitting here in class like wait… so that’s why.’
Rihanna, born in February 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbado, shares the Fenty last name with her two brothers, Rorrey and Rajad Fenty.
She also has three other siblings—two sisters and one brother—born before her father, Ronald Fenty, married her mother Monica.
The singer has always gone by her middle name throughout her career, ever since the release of her debut album Music Of The Sun in 2005.
Now, the last name is sent to be durably associated with Fenty Beauty since the beauty brand has made headlines for its wide range of inclusive shades, which has earned rave reviews from albino people used to not finding beauty products matching their skin tone.
