Italy international Jorginho has said he chose to join Chelsea over Manchester City because of Maurizio Sarri’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
However, City were unable to finalise an agreement with Napoli, and Jorginho joined Chelsea in a deal worth €60 million.
“There are a lot of things behind a negotiation process,” Jorginho said, when asked about his decision to join Chelsea over City. “I believe Sarri’s arrival played a big part on it.
“And there’s also the greatness of Chelsea, such a big club. So these factors helped me making my mind.”
Despite Jorginho having already been at Napoli for a year when Sarri arrived in 2015, it is under the Italian manager that his career blossomed. And Chelsea’s No. 5 said the pair do share a special relationship.
“Yes, it’s a pretty good relationship,” Jorginho said. “He’s always bantering, joking with me.
“He didn’t call me, because he’s not the type to be phoning players, but of course, through agents, I knew what his wish was and what kind of work would be put in here.”
Sarri is known for his possession-based football and Jorginho said that, while the ex-Empoli boss is very tactical, he does focus mainly on the attacking aspects of the game.
“Very offensive, very offensive,” Jorginho said of Sarri’s methods. “He’s very tactical and he works a lot on the tactical aspects of the game.
