Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua (APC Katsina Central) has been elected as the new Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF), succeeding suspended Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP Bauchi Central) who resigned from the position. Yar’Adua’s appointment was made following unanimous endorsement by Senators representing the three geopolitical zones in the North.
Additionally, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (APC Borno North) has been appointed as the Publicity Secretary of the forum, a position previously held by Senator Summaila Kawu (NNPP Kano South) during Ningi’s tenure.
In his address to the press after assuming office, Senator Yar’Adua emphasized the forum’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s interests and developing the North through collaboration with counterparts from the South.
He also pledged to cooperate with the executive arm of government to address the region’s challenges.
Yar’Adua stated, “Our legislative discourse will continue to be characterized by civility, dignity, and adherence to the rule of law as we fulfill our lawmaking, policy-making, and oversight functions.”
He expressed confidence in effecting positive change, uplifting the North, and contributing to the nation’s overall development through collective efforts and cooperation.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Yar’Adua acknowledged the challenges facing the Northern region, including security, agriculture, education, healthcare, drug abuse, and human trafficking.
He promised to tackle these issues with more vibrant legislations in collaboration with Senators from the South.
