Senior Advocate Femi Falana Contradicts Perception of Kano State Governor’s Removal
In a notable contradiction to the widely circulated belief about the removal of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has clarified that the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld Yusuf’s election, overturning the ruling of the lower tribunal.
Speaking on the Arise News Primetime Show, Falana disclosed that he meticulously examined the Certified True Copy of the judgment and expressed his surprise at the existing contradictions in the public narrative.
According to Falana, the majority judgment at the Court of Appeal set aside the decision of the lower court, favored Yusuf with awarded costs, and granted all the reliefs sought by the governor.
This revelation challenges the prevailing perception of Governor Abba Yusuf’s removal from office.
Calling for a revisitation of the recommendations of the Justice Uwais Electoral Committee, Falana emphasized the necessity of establishing a common standard to ensure elections genuinely reflect the will of the people.
Expressing his discontent with the current accountability framework, Falana criticized the practice of holding individuals responsible for the errors of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials.
He advocated for the creation of an Independent Electoral Offences Commission.
In addition, Falana proposed the unbundling of INEC, suggesting a dedicated focus on conducting elections while establishing a separate commission for addressing electoral offences and regulating political parties.
