Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has described the re-election of the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson as a victory for democracy.
Dickson emerged winner after supplementary elections which held on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
Wike’s comments were contained in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu.
“The people of the Niger Delta remain dedicated members of the PDP because that is the only political platform that gives Niger Delta issues the priority they deserve while the others are only interested in the pecuniary benefits which flow from the area,” the governor said.
He also said that the will of Bayelsa people had prevailed and that the people of the state exhibited the true Niger Delta spirit, which abhors oppression and injustice.
The initial polls in Bayelsa held on December 5, 2015, but were declared inconclusive after the cancellation of the election in the Southern Ijaw area.
