The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, has rejected the outcome of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary election in the state, which was won by a former Ambassador to Morocco, Abdallah Wali.
Mr. Shagari had before the commencement of the exercise, protested against the composition of PDP delegates’ list but chairman of the election panel, U.U Kumo went ahead to conduct the primaries.
Announcing the result early Tuesday, Kumo said Mr. Wali got 547 votes, while Abubakar Gada and Shagari got 193 and 1 votes respectively.
Former Minister of Sports, Yusuf Suleiman, withdrew from the race before the election started.
Mr. Shagari had reportedly directed his supporters to vacate the Stadium, venue of the election when Mr. Kumo declared the results.
Briefing journalists afterwards on what transpired, Mr. Shagari described the election as “out-right illegality” and called on the national leadership of the party to void the primary election.
