The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, and Bishop Mathew Kukah of the Kukah Centre, have urged Nigerians to strive towards building a united nation.
They made this call at the National Integration Conference themed: “Revisiting the National Question: Nigeria’s Elusive Search for National Integration,” organized by the Kukah Centre.
Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, Tajudeen highlighted Nigeria’s pluralism and vast diversity in ethnicity, language, and religion as valuable assets.
He emphasized that embracing and leveraging this diversity would propel Nigeria towards a more unified and prosperous future.
“Our diversity should be our strategic advantage, making us more resilient, innovative, and cohesive as a nation.
Our ongoing constitutional amendment process also aims to strengthen these mechanisms, promoting a more inclusive, fair, and just society,” he stated.
Bishop Kukah emphasized the urgent need for nation-building, urging Nigerians to cease the blame game and unite for the country’s good.
“Building our nation is not about apportioning blame. It is about the urgency of national integration.
National integration doesn’t necessarily mean everybody must be the same. It is for us in Nigeria to understand the intricacies of managing diversity,” he added.
Kukah also stressed that anyone who identifies as a citizen of Nigeria should believe in the Constitution and work towards building the nation.
