President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and members in Oyo State to unite and work cohesively to reclaim the state in the 2027 elections, stressing its importance within the progressive movement.
Represented by Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Tinubu made this appeal during the inaugural Lam Adesina annual lecture held in Ibadan on Monday.
Former governors Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, along with prominent APC figures including Senator Teslim Folarin, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, and Oyo APC Chairman Alhaji Olayide Abas, attended the event.
Dignitaries present also included the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Apostle Sunday Popoola, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Barrister Bayo Shittu, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, and others.
The gathering honored Adesina, who served as governor of Oyo State from 1999 to 2003. The APC had lost Oyo to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in both the 2019 and 2023 elections.
Minister Adelabu urged party leaders to work in unity as a tribute to Adesina’s legacy. “Lam Adesina stood for high democratic ideals essential for a government by the people, with effective participation in governance,” he said.
“To honor his memory, the Progressives in Oyo State must come together as one.
You all must fight the fight and win the battle. Come 2027, Oyo State must return to the progressive fold.”
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, represented by Senator Shuaib Salisu, emphasized the importance of restoring a national value system that promotes responsible citizenship.
