Tottenham plan to renew their interest for Everton’s Ross Barkley when the transfer window reopens in January, reports have said.
Chelsea and Tottenham were pursuing Barkley’s signature throughout the summer after the player told Everton he would not be extending his contract, which has less than a year to run.
The midfielder came close to a move to Chelsea on deadline day after the Premier League champions agreed a fee with Everton only for Barkley to reject the move to Stamford Bridge.
Mauricio Pochettino was excited to add the 23-year-old to his squad this summer and reports said that the England international was also interested in the move.
However, a hamstring injury which could keep Barkley out for several months resulted in Tottenham not pushing for a move to sign him before last week’s transfer deadline.
Tottenham had doubts about signing Barkley while he was injured, but informed his representatives they would come back for a potential move once the 23-year-old was back to full fitness.
