Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested 20 suspects linked to the December 22 attack on Tingbwa Gidan Ado community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, where 15 people were killed.
Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Commander of OPSH and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, disclosed this during a Christmas luncheon organized for OPSH troops and 3 Division personnel in Jos on Thursday.
Abubakar stated that the arrests were made after sustained night operations by the troops.
“Following hours of sustained night operations, we have apprehended 20 suspects directly and indirectly involved in the last attack on Tingbwa Gidan Ado village in Riyom LGA on Dec. 22,” he said.
The commander also announced the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, which he said had disrupted the activities of criminal elements in the area.
“Let the spirit of Christmas renew our commitment to the values we hold dear; let it inspire us to serve with even greater passion and determination,” he added.
Abubakar commended the troops for their sacrifices in maintaining peace and security in Plateau State, noting that many personnel were away from their families during the festive season.
“Your courage and resilience will never go unnoticed as they embody the highest form of sacrifice.
While others enjoy the warmth of family and the comfort of home, you endure the realities of duty,” he said.
He urged the troops to remain disciplined, loyal, vigilant, and professional in their conduct during the festive season and beyond.
Abubakar also expressed gratitude to Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and Lt.-Gen.
Olufumi Oloyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for their leadership and guidance, which have contributed to the operational successes of OPSH through both kinetic and non-kinetic measures.
