Troops of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, have conducted a series of clearance operations targeting camps of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), resulting in the arrest of two suspected terrorists.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the task force’s spokesman, Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, on Sunday in Enugu.
Unuakhalu revealed that on Dec. 5, 2024, troops raided an IPOB/ESN camp at Uhuala-Aku in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
“The combined force, acting on credible intelligence, encountered the irredentists who fled their camp in disarray into the adjoining forest due to the troops’ superior firepower,” the statement read.
Items Recovered
- One G3 rifle
- Two pump-action rifles
- Three Dane guns
- One locally-fabricated pistol
- One MG belt
- Two AK-47 rifle magazines
- 12 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
- Five rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition
- A sack containing a human skull
- One Toyota Hilux vehicle
- Six radio chargers
- 20 car keys
- One Boafeng radio
Additionally, 26 makeshift accommodations used by the terrorists were destroyed during the operation.
Arrests and Further Operations
Lt.-Col. Unuakhalu noted that troops of Sector 2 arrested two suspects responsible for terrorizing the Okposi community in Ebonyi State. Recovered items included:
- Two locally-fabricated pistols
- Nine live cartridges
- One motorcycle
In a separate operation, troops of Sector 1, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), raided another IPOB/ESN camp at Agu Orba Ekwegbe Community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Unuakhalu assured that Operation UDO KA remains committed to restoring peace and eliminating terrorist activities in the South-East region.
