Tensions are running high today within the confines of the 1004 Estate, as residents have united in protest against what they perceive as years of neglect at the hands of the management overseeing this esteemed residential complex.
The situation escalated dramatically over the weekend when the generator servicing the towering complex went up in flames on Friday. Shockingly, there seemed to be no contingency or emergency plan in place by the Homeowners and Residents Association (HORA).
A disgruntled resident shared their frustration with TheNewsGiant, stating, “We can’t even prepare a meal, and the lifts and air-conditioners are out of service. This is the outcome of the consistent neglect by the HORA team since taking charge in 2017.”
Compounding the issue, residents gathered at the HORA office within the complex this morning, only to find none of the key officers available to address their concerns. Moreover, the management had not implemented any visible palliative measures to resolve the ongoing problems.
“There’s a risk of things taking a nasty turn as more residents come forward to air their grievances,” warned a resident. “I’ve already cautioned my family to stay indoors.”
Perusing documents obtained by TheNewsGiant revealed that previous attempts to enhance living conditions in the estate had met with failure.
In a display of collective discontent, some protesting residents, including expatriates, wielded placards, one of which declared:
The sentiment among residents was vocalized by one individual who remarked, “What adds insult to injury is that this crisis could have been averted. Yet, the HORA management has been self-serving, corrupt, and indifferent to the overall well-being of residents. It’s simply unacceptable.”
The 1004 Estate stands as a luxurious residential enclave in Victoria Island, its name derived from the multitude of flats within its confines. As the largest single luxury high-rise estate in Sub-Saharan Africa, boasting over 1004 flats, maisonettes, and studio apartments in Victoria Island, it holds a prestigious position.
Originally under the ownership of the Federal Government, the estate was inaugurated in 1979 to provide high-quality accommodation for senators and members of the House of Representatives. However, in 2007, it underwent a transition into private ownership when investors took charge.
