Nigeria’s Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo has described the traditional institution as custodians of the country’s cherished, rich and noble cultural values.
He stated this recently at the turbaning ceremony of the Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero as the ‘Dallatun Zazzau’ by the Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris which held at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria.
Namadi Sambo, while advising the newly turbaned Dallatu said that as custodians of Nigeria’s rich history, culture and traditions, they are urged to follow the footsteps of their predecessors by being steadfast in the responsibilities and roles assigned to them. “You must at all times keep in mind that you represent our rich and noble values and must continue to protect the positive image of the Emirate locally and internationally,” he called.
The Vice President noted that the conferment of the exalted title to the governor warrants celebration, observing that the activity was necessary since the Emirate is making concerted efforts to reposition its fortunes for greatness.
While speaking, the Kaduna State Governor, Ramalan Yero expressed appreciation to the Almighty Allah for the recognition and expressed appreciation to the Emir and his council, his parents as well as those who have played prominent roles in his life, including the Vice President. He pledged to give all his best to uphold the virtues of the title, calling on all residents of the State to join hands with him to enable him deliver on his developmental goals.
The Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, who is also the Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, while speaking on behalf of his counterparts, expressed appreciation to the Emir and his Council for recognizing one of their own; saying it shows the synergy between the traditional institution and those in government.
Speaking earlier, the Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris disclosed that it was in recognition of the immense contributions of the governor to the progress of the Emirate, Kaduna State and the country at large that the Emirate Council have found him worthy and deserving to hold the old and high ranking tile which makes him one of the closest confidants of the Emir. He prayed for continued peace, stability and tranquility in the country.
In another development, a colourful Durbar celebration in honoiur of Governor Ramalan Yero as the 19th Dallatun Zazzau and the third to be installed by the current Emir was staged with the presence of the Governors of Gombe, Katsina and Kogi States. Other attendees were: Deputy Governors, members of the State and federal executive and legislatures and well wishers.
