A former Senator on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, Bode Ola, has said the party (now All Progressives Congress) cannot defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 general elections.
He cited the defeat suffered by the party’s candidate in the just concluded Ekiti governorship poll, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, despite the advantage of incumbency, in the hands of the PDP candidate, Mr. Ayo Fayose, as a sign of the weakness of the party in the country.
Speaking to a group of journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, Ola, who is now a member of the PDP, attributed the fall of the APC to the overbearing influence of a former Lagos Governor, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.
Responding to a question, Mr. Ola cautioned the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, to face his re-election campaign and leave Ekiti people with their choice of Fayose, instead of crying foul where there was none.
We had reported that Aregbesola on Tuesday, during his campaign rally in Ikirun, accused the PDP of committing fraud to win the Ekiti election. The governorship election in Osun is slated for August 9.
Ola said, “It (Ekiti defeat) is a red signal that everything is up for APC in South West. Maybe he (Aregbesola) is getting agitated that it will soon be his own turn”.
Asked if he was interested in returning to the senate, he replied, “I will make my decision known at the right time”.
