Tanzania champions, Young Africans deflated Komorozine Sports of Comoros 7-0 whilst Kampala City Council (KCC) of Uganda shocked Al-Merreikh of sudan with a 2-0 win Omdurman.
Young Africans proved too much for their visitors in the Orange CAF Champions League prelims first leg encounter at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam that saw Mrisho Ngassa netting a hat-trick. The Tanzanians made their pre-tournament training camp in Turkey count scoring the opener as early as the 14th minute through Ngassa, nodding in a cross from Mbuyu Twite.
Nadir Haroub cemented the lead six minutes later to give Yanga a two-goal lead at half time.
Twelve minutes from recess, Didier Kavumbagu scored the third goal before Hamis Kiiza further extended the lead three minutes on.
Ngassa completed his hat-trick with strikes on 65 and 68 minutes before Kavumbagu signed off with the seventh goal on 80 minutes.
In Omdurman, Merreikh were left bruised after first half strikes from Herman Wasswa and Tony Odur handed Uganda champions, KCC a shocking 2-0 win.
The visitors scored both goals within a spate of two minutes capitalizing on blunders by the Merreikh rear, Wassawa firing in on 20 minutes and Odur two minutes later.
The Sudanese champions have a tall mountain needing three unanswered goals past the Ugandans in the return fixture in Kampala to go through.
There was yet another shocking result in Brazzaville, with Flambeau de l’EST of Burundi pipping Diables Noirs of Congo at their latter’s backyard. Pascal Hakizimana scored the winner on 90 minutes.
