The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ridiculed the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the defection of Hon. Suleiman Abubakar Gummi to the APC.
Gummi, who represents the Bukkuyyum/Gummi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, was elected on the PDP platform in 2023.
Speaking to journalists in Gusau, APC State Publicity Secretary Yusuf Idris Gusau claimed that Gummi’s defection signals internal issues within the PDP.
“We are not surprised that the lawmaker decamped to APC with his teeming supporters because Governor Dauda Lawal is not a politician but a businessman,” he said.
Gusau asserted that Gummi’s move to the APC will significantly impact the PDP’s prospects in the 2027 general election, calling the lawmaker a “force to reckon with” in the Bukkuyyum/Gummi constituency.
He also hinted at plans for an official event to welcome Gummi into the APC fold.
The APC spokesperson criticized the PDP-led administration, alleging that PDP leaders act more as rulers than democratic leaders.
“In a government where only one person is in charge of everything, that shows no sign of democracy,” he stated, adding that many PDP chieftains and officeholders have been sidelined.
Gusau urged APC supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, promising a political showdown with the PDP in the 2027 campaign.
“We will meet at the campaign grounds to show the power of political supremacy,” he concluded.
