Cobi Jones said Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s superb play since joining the MLS side could be due to some divine intervention.
“Any time that you have a player like Ibrahimovic, who seems to have been kissed by the gods right now, as far as timing of everything goes, anything can happen,” Jones said on The Totally Football Show.
Ibrahimovic has taken MLS by storm since joining the Galaxy in March. The former Sweden international has 22 goals in 26 games, is a strong contender for MVP, and even has the top-selling jersey in MLS.
The team, currently in 7th place in the Western Conference, must win their final regular-season game on Sunday against visiting Houston to leapfrog Real Salt Lake for the final playoff spot.
Ibrahimovic scored the opening goal in LA’s 3-1 victory last week at Minnesota in a must-win game that kept the four-time MLS champion’s postseason hopes alive.
“When I watched that game I thought, okay, I knew he could score goals, I knew he could battle, but his ability with the ball at his feet was pretty good as he was bringing those players through,” said Jones, who played his entire MLS career with the Galaxy and is the U.S. leader in international caps.
